What’s the most common appliance problem? The most common appliance problem we come accross is a leaking washing machine. Before calling your local appliance repairer, please check your drain pump filter and make sure there’s no blockages. Doing so may just save you over $100. Also, check your inlet hoses regularly to make sure there are no cracks or frayed bits as nobody likes coming home to a flooded laundry!
What is the best brand to buy? All well recognised brands like those we list on this web site carry spare parts and usually can supply those parts within 10 working days. Every manufacturer will produce a ‘lemon’ every so often but overall they are pretty good.
Should I repair or replace my appliance? This can be a tough question, as it’s like comparing apples or oranges as the technology used in appliances has come along way in the last 5-10 years. However, there are a couple of other factors that you can consider as well. These factors include the cost of repairing your old appliance as opposed to buying a new one, which differs dramatically with each job, and also the cost of your time in shopping for a new appliance, having it delivered and getting the old one disposed of. David McKay & Co have a flat fee of $99 for assessment of your machine, this will get you a quote and a recommendation of whether, in your situation, we would repair or replace the appliance. Generally speaking though, most appliances we come accross are worth repairing as they’re generally minor repairs (such as heaters, belts, drain pumps, sensors etc) as opposed to major repairs (compressors, drive motors).
Why are there suds left in my washer at the end of the cycle?This can be for a number of reasons, firstly though, are you using a front loader or a top loader machine? These two types of machines have different requirements for detergent, so if you use top load powder in your front load washer then you’re going to eventually end up with this exact problem. Also, you need to be careful to put the right amount of detergent in your washing machine (this can often be less than what is stated on the detergent packet too).
I need to dispose of my old fridge, how do I do this? The best way to dispose of an old appliance in most cases is to take it to your local repair agent. This is especially true in the case of fridges, as they contain gas which by law must be recovered and taken to a gas disposal company. So to ethically and legally dispose of your fridge properly, it’s best to turn it over to your local repairer.
