We know fridge filters should be replaced at least once a year. The manufacturers of LG fridge filters, Samsung fridge filters, Whirlpool fridge filters and Fisher Paykel fridge filters, generally recommend their water filters are replaced every 6 months.

Most fridge filters are a type of carbon filter and they do block up. Now-a-days it is possible to use generic filters which are every bit as good as the brand name ones for a vastly lower cost. Cheap filters that are not pressure tested do burst and if that ahppens it makes a real mess.
